How Do Metabolic Health Coaches Help?
Metabolic health coaches provide personalised support to help people manage and even reverse type 2 diabetes. In a pilot programme led by PREKURE and ProCare, patients working with health coaches saw an average drop in blood sugar (HbA1c) of 9.2 mmol/mol and a 9 mmHg reduction in systolic blood pressure.
Many also lost weight and reduced their waist size. Those who attended at least two coaching sessions saw even greater benefits – with two people reversing their type 2 diabetes and 12 others improving from “diabetic” to “pre-diabetic.”
The programme also helped build health confidence, with over half of participants completing educational lessons and gaining the tools to take control of their long-term wellbeing. The impact was especially strong for Māori and Pacific families.
